The Preschool was established as an extension of the mission of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. Preschool students benefit from the interactive science learning and promotion of an understanding of their world that is part of the Museum mission.

In 2003, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery begun programming aimed at educating young children by offering Kaleidoscope, a program for preschoolers. After seven years of operating Kaleidoscope, and upon the urging of our families with preschoolers, the Museum opened our full-time preschool program in 2010: The Preschool at the Boonshoft Museum.

The Preschool will began its fifth year of formal operations as a state licensed program in the Fall of 2015. Our connection to the Museum and its tradition of enhancing science learning experiences can be seen in the classroom.

The staff is committed to the science of early childhood education. Our highly qualified staff apply their years of knowledge and varied experiences working with young children to present a curriculum fit for our multi-age classroom. The offerings in the classroom include current research and best practices that inform the direction learning takes. Among our inspirations are time-tested student and play- focused approaches such as the Montessori philosophy used in our early years as Kaleidoscope.

We encourage families to visit the Preschool at the Boonshoft to meet with the staff, see the classroom, and experience all that our unique program has to offer.

If you are interested in our Preschool Program, we ask that you submit a request for information by clicking the link below. Parents can see our classroom any weekday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with appointment.
