Visiting the Museum with Children

The Museum is creatively arranged and offers a safe, clean environment where you can relax, have fun and learn something new each time you visit.

The Museum is creatively arranged and offers a safe, clean environment where you can relax, have fun and learn something new each time you visit. Most families find that a membership provides the greatest value as it allows unlimited free admission for a full year to the Boonshoft Museum and SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park.

Storytime

Storytime Each Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. the Education Department hosts Storytime in the Mead Treehouse. Stories last five to fifteen minutes; topics include wildlife, woodland habitats, environmental issues, good stewardship of natural resources and more. Exhibit Talks

Education staff conduct exhibit talks at both featured and permanent exhibitions at varied times throughout the Boonshoft facility. Programs include puppet shows, polar animal talk and experiments in the Education Center Lobby, mummy talks in the African Room, and engaging programs and interpretation of our varying traveling exhibits. Science Theater

Watch and participate in awesome live science demonstrations in the Science Theater. Shows’ content varies, but include themes like, “Science Can Be Loud,” “Bubbles and Boom,” or “Playing with Fire.” On the day of your visit, check with the guest services desk for more information or click the calendar for dates and show times. Science is never boring in the science theater!

Do Lab

Do Lab Visitors of all ages are welcomed to the Do Lab, where you become the scientist. Perform a variety of experiments that change from week to week with the guidance of Boonshoft staff and volunteers. KidsPlayce Labs

Stop in at That Kids’ Playce and watch your little one experiment with sound, light, color, chemistry and more. Science isn’t just for grown-ups! These experiments are specifically designed for you and your little one to enjoy (ages 2 – 5 years). Animal Talks

Animal Talks Visit the Mead Treehouse to meet one of Boonshoft’s animal ambassadors. You never know which animal you’ll meet, or even get to touch, but you can count on having fun and learning some interesting new animal facts.
