Reciprocity

Still have questions regarding reciprocity?

Find the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the "90 mile rule" and how does it affect my reciprocal benefits?

The ASTC/AZA has the option to enforce a "90 mile rule" based on your science center/museum's location. Institutions located within 90 miles of each other are excluded from reciprocal benefits programming unless that exclusions is lifted by a mutual agreement. 90 miles is measured "as the crow flies" and not by driving distance. Science centers/museums may create their own local reciprocal program. ASTC/AZA does not require or participate in these agreements, or dictate their terms.

The "90 mile rule" also applies based on your residence. To receive reciprocal benefits at other institutions you must live more than 90 miles away ("as the crow flies") from the center/museum you wish to visit. Admissions staff always reserve the right to request proof of residence for benefits to apply.

Please note: the ACM does not observe the “90 mile rule”

I went out of town to visit a different children’s museum and forgot to bring my membership card with me, what should I do?

When traveling to a different zoo/aquarium, children’s museum, or science/technology center always remember your photo ID and DSNH Membership Card, this is the best way for other institutions to extend reciprocal benefits to you as a guest. If for some reason you forget your your card, or have issues with your membership card please call 937.275.7431 x 144.

I plan on visiting the Boonshoft Museum, are planetarium shows included with my reciprocal benefits?

We welcome all visiting guests to use their reciprocal benefits, if applicable, however planetarium shows are not included as part of the reciprocal benefits we offer to members of other institutions. Planetarium shows are an additional $4.00 for guests that wish to use their reciprocal benefits.

I just purchased a membership online, but I want to begin using my membership benefits immediately, must I wait for the cards to come in the mail?

No! If you have purchased your membership online, you will receive a confirmation email, this can be used as a “temporary card” (for up to two weeks) until you receive your actual membership card in the mail.

If you purchase your DSNH Membership at the Boonshoft Museum you will receive either a temporary or permanent Membership card that will be good from one year of purchase.
