Permanent Exhibits

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is a children’s museum, science/technology center, and accredited zoo and also houses a Planetarium and an observatory. Visitors of all ages can explore, play and be inspired by permanent exhibits which include the Bernouilli Blower, Explorers Crossing, the Water Table, the Color Wall, a pioneer cabin, and over 60 animals native to Ohio.

Exoplanets Exploration

The Boonshoft Museum's newest permanent exhibition allows guests reach beyond the planets that orbit our Sun to discover more than 1,500 extrasolar planets that have unlimited possibilities.


Splash your way through this exhibition that explores the story of water in the Miami Valley!  Discover more about our local aquifers, learn about conservation efforts and what you can do to preserve this natural resource, and even explore water careers.



Science On a Sphere®

Science On a Sphere®This 68-inch diameter globe, suspended in mid-air, takes visitors on a dynamic tour of Earth and space! Explore the darkest reaches of the space and discover some of the most breathtaking astronomical phenomena in the galaxy. Then view an astonishing array of visualizations showing Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and land.


Hall of the Universe

Hall of the UniverseHave you ever questioned our place in the universe? Study astronomy in the Hall of the Universe, where a stroll through the cosmos lets you touch the moon, learn about our galaxy, and explore the beautiful, intriguing complexities of space.

Discovery Zoo

Why do animals look the way they do? From a skunk’s stripe to a kinkajou’s prehensile tail, learn why each creature has its own special shapes, colors and adaptations. Encounter animals from across the globe as you meet Meerkats, get a closer look a prickly Prehensile Tailed Porcupines, and come face-to-face with the Museum's beloved River Otters, Shiloh and Sushi..

MeadWestvaco Tree House

Mead Tree HouseA remarkable permanent exhibit space, the Mead Treehouse is just that: a fully-enclosed treehouse that extends beyond the traditional walls of the Museum to grant better access to the natural world. While inside, learn about environmental preservation, enjoy a story hour, do some bird watching, and even catch an animal talk featuring one of the Museum’s resident animals.
